hi... i've read your site and it's a great resource.... however it seems that there are a few choices for jailbreaking the ipod touch. i've just got a new one with 1.1.1 already on it, haven't put 1.1.2 anywhere near it yet.
what, in your opinion, is the method of choice to jailbreak it? i will want to put the iphone apps on it (mail, maps etc etc). i can use both windows or OSX to jailbreak it if needed (although i see some can be done direct on the itouch).
i noticed you've come across some issues with using some of the methods.
also, once it's jailbroken, i assume it's ok to then uprgade to 1.1.2 ?
i assume i will need a local copy of 1.1.1 to restore back to if i ever need to ?
many thanks

I would recommend leaving your iPod touch at 1.1.1 simply because 1.1.2 is simply a calendar "fix" without any new features. It just makes it harder to jailbreak.
To jailbreak your iPod touch, you can really do it just about any way you would like, they all should work fine. I originallyy had problems with jailbreakme.com, but it should be okay to use now. Also, the method you choose is mostly a personally preference thing. The jailbreak.bat method (basher-itouch-fix) is longer, requires a direct connection to your PC, but it's the one that has been the most reliable for me (but keep in mind that it was one of the first automatic jailbreaks and the scripting for it is considered to be fairly old). As for jailbreakme.com and slovix.com/touchfree one, they are relatively similar, but it seems that most people seem to prefer the touchfree one over the jailbreakme.com.
...Hope this helps..

I just read through the jailbreak section of iPodtouchfans.com and it seems the consensus is that 1.1.2 is faster and more stable than 1.1.1, but people are still reporting minor issues related to the jailbreak. As I type this I am restoring my iPod, so I can jailbreak it in 1.1.2.
