I'm getting really frustrated trying to figure out what's going wrong when I'm trying to jailbreak my iPod touch (which I successfully downgraded to firmware 1.1.1 from 1.1.2) and am hoping you'll be able to help me.
I had originally run the AppSnapp page from Safari on my iPod which worked perfectly, and I was able to install any number of apps from the installer app. However the main reason I wanted to jailbreak in the first place was so I could have the iPhone apps on my iPod, and I couldn't figure out how to get them, so I decided to restore to the original, non-jailbroken state and follow your guide to jailbreaking...
Problem is, when I run the jailbreak.bat file, it goes through everything fine until it asks for the iPod's IP address. I'm connected to my own wireless network and know the iPod's IP address yet when I enter it, it tells me 'connection refused'. I've tried this both on my PC and on my Mac, several times and nothing seems to work.
Incidentally the problem I was having with the iPod after jailbreaking it via AppSnapp, the first time, could be related to this. I wasnt able to connect to it remotely but thought it might have been a problem with the way I had jailbroken it. When I was asked for the username 'root' and password 'alpine' plus my iPod's IP address, something wasn't being accepted because that wouldn't let me connect either.
I've tried Cyberduck with my Mac and WinSCP on Windows.
Any ideas?? It's driving me mad!
Thanks.

[glow=green,2,300]Solution[/glow] 1. Turn on your iPod touch 2. Go into 'Settings' 3. Then 'General' 4. Then 'Auto-Lock' 5. Select 'Never' 6. Try connecting to your iPod touch again...
If/When you successfully install the iPhone apps, you can go back and change the 'Auto-Lock' setting to what ever you would prefer. The 'Auto-Lock' thing is basically how long before your iPod will go into "sleep" mode, which disables the WiFi connection.

Got it! Thanks so much for your help!
I actually have a couple of other questions, if you wouldn't mind.
The 'customize' app - I've installed it but it doesn't do anything, it just loads and then quits itself. Is it supposed to work on an iPod touch or only on the iPhone?
I'd also like to install SummerBoard -- I can find some of the themes, but not the app itself. Any idea where it is?
Also, is there a way to get Mail to check for mail automatically, like with the iPhone? And can I add more than one email account to it?
Thanks again!

Customize- Make sure you are running the latest version (1.17 as of now). If it still crashes trying tapping on the screen a lot of time with all your fingers (I have NO idea, but it usually works, and you don't have to do this ever again) SummerBoard- It is definitely in the Installer app, but I forget where, I'm thinking it's in 'System' ...Sorry...I'm in the process of re-jailbreaking my iPod... As for mail, go into 'Settings' and select mail, you'll find everything you're asking about in there

Cheers - managed to get Customize working, however despite setting it to the iPod touch configuration rather than that of the iPhone, it has left me with an app with a '?' on the icon, which I assume is what would be the camera app on the iPhone.. I've removed Customize and decided just to use SummerBoard (which I found, eventually) but the '?' icon remains. Any idea how I can get rid of it?
Also - is there a way to change the order of the icons with SummerBoard, or is that only with Customize? I tried it with Customize and it worked, but it wouldn't let me move my music or video icons (it only had an icon for 'iPod', like on the iPhone) and they automatically went right to the very end, which isn't much use!
Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.

You could use the older customize, that someone modified, which can be found here: www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7011...I'd say thats your best bet... With that you could remove the ? icon and move everything around how ever you would like.

Thanks for the info and the link.
Do you know where you're supposed to copy the files? I copied them to the 'Customize' folder within 'Library', but nothing happened, and it does say on the page you linked me to that you should 'replace' the files with the ones in the downloaded folder... however there were no files already in the 'Customize' folder on my iPod with those names.
Not sure if they're supposed to go elsewhere? I looked around and saw there was a 'bin' folder in the first directory but I can't see anything else.
